The Tactics Mod
The Mod
"I have a request to make of you. However, I shall be up-front about things
and tell you now that I fully intend to betray you."
-- Pontifex
The Tactics Mod Pack adds quite a few optional components to BGII. They all
aim to make the game more challenging and rewarding by increasing the
difficult (and thus the thought required) of encounters.
Many of these components have been drawn from different mod authors; I
did not write everything here. In particular, Gebhard Blucher, Kensai Ryu,
Xyx and Ishan have made contributions.
The Tactics Mod adds quite a few new components to BGII. All of the
components are individually optional: you may install some but not others,
your choice. Contents:

- French Translation by Laurent Duvernet and Ly Meng.
Example:
- Me faire confiance? Vous ne devriez absolument pas me faire
confiance.
- Spanish Translation by Clan REO. Example:
-
- German Translation by Max Winkelmann and Falk Swoboda. Example:
-
Mir vertrauen?
- Italian Translation by Luciana Stella Boscaratto and Stoneangel. Example:
-
infliggendo la vostra morale malata agli ignari visitatori come me.
- Polish Translation by Damian Staniszewski.
Example:
-
Zaufać mi? Powinieneś mi ufać tak dalece jak
możesz mną rzucić. Ale powinieneś zaakceptować
zadanie, które chcę ci powierzyć. Z pewnością
zauważyłeś, że prawie wszyscy, którzy cię
zatrudniali
z ukrytymi motywami zwykle w końcu zdradzali cię?
- Chinese Translation by kalabaka. Example:
-
- Russian Translation by Serdrick. Example:
-
Вы
должны
доверять
мне
Но
цели.
Вы
что
почти
стремится
свои
истинные
намерения
рано

Installing The Mod
"Unfortunately, since this is truly the eleventh hour, I don't have time to
explain it now. Let me finish up a few things and then we can talk. Don't
worry, this will just take a minute."
-- Countess Merentha
Installation checklist and instructions:
- If you already have portions of this mod installed (from when they used
to be packaged with the Solaufien Mod, for example), don't worry. Those old
versions will be automatically uninstalled when you install the new ones.
- You will not need to start a new game to take advantage of
the Tactics Mod.
- The Tactics mod (probably!) works with (and definitley works without)
The Darkest Day - ToB Compat Version.
Install TDD-ToB first if you want to use it.
- The Tactics Mod requires BGII. The Throne of Bhaal expansion is
optional (but required for some components).
- The Tactics Mod works with (or without) all
other WeiDU mods.
See the Solaufein installation
instructions for details (and Mac installation instructions).
- The Tactics Mod does not require IEEP or any other
TeamBG utilities and it will not replace your existing DIALOG.TLK.

Download the Tactics Mod (version v25)
-
The EXE file above is a WinRAR self-extracting archive. Run it, and in the
Install to field put your BGII directory. That is normally:
C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA
If you do not like self-extracting EXEs, you can get a normal RAR version.
- Run the included Setup-Tactics.EXE program. Choose your
language and then choose which components to install. You may uninstall any
or all of them later.
- You may run Setup-Tactics.EXE again to uninstall any
(or all) component that you have already installed. For example, you might
try out the harder battles and then uninstall them later if you do not like
them.
- I recently installed the tactics, ascension and item upgrade mods- to
my delight they are absolutely outstanding. What you have done for the
game is much more than adding game hours; a new and far more involving
experience that emanates the feeling that it should always have been this
way.
